FIG. 00 — PITCH CHECK / BROWSER ONLY

Pitch Checker

No app or sign-up. Allow the microphone and sing: you see the note you are singing and how far it is from the correct pitch (in cents) in real time. When you stop, you get pitch accuracy, jitter, longest sustained note, vibrato count and rate, and your vocal range. Audio is analysed inside this browser only; nothing is recorded or sent.

Vocal range test (dedicated mode)

Sing your lowest note, then your highest, to measure the range you can actually sing. The range figure in the pitch checker above is picked up while you sing; this mode walks you through reaching both ends. Audio is analysed on this device only.

Range Test
  1. 01Lowest note

Start at speaking pitch on an “ah” and slide down little by little. Stop just before your voice turns into a rasp.

    Lowest: —

  2. 02Highest note

Slide up little by little from a comfortable pitch. Falsetto counts: go as high as you can hold for 0.3 s without strain. Stop if your throat hurts.

    Highest: —

Starting asks for microphone access. Step 1 low end, then step 2 high end.

Audio is analysed in this browser only. Nothing is recorded or uploaded. Results stay on this device only when you press Save.

How to use (3 steps)

  1. 01

Press Start and allow the microphone

Works in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android and PC. Use earphones for the backing track so only your voice reaches the mic.

  2. 02

    Sing or hold a note

Free mode shows the distance from the nearest note. Guide mode plays a reference note and shows the distance from it (octave differences count as the same note).

  3. 03

Press Stop to see the result sheet

Accuracy, jitter, long tone, vibrato and range. Sing the same phrase a few times and watch how the numbers move.

What is measured and how it is judged

Thresholds are our own guidelines and are unrelated to the specifications of karaoke scoring machines.

ItemWhat it measuresThreshold
Pitch (cents)Distance between the note you sing and the nearest note (or the guide note). 100 cents = one semitone.Strict: within ±12 cents. Normal: within ±30 cents.
Pitch accuracyShare of voiced time inside the threshold.90% or more is stable. Under 80% usually means the key does not fit your range or note onsets are off.
Jitter (stability)Average deviation from the 0.25-second moving average.±8 cents or less = stable, ±20 or less = fair, above = unstable. Vibrato raises this on purpose.
Long toneLongest unbroken time on one note (±1 semitone).Aim for 3 seconds or more.
VibratoRegular pitch oscillation while sustaining: 4–8.5 Hz, depth ≥10 cents, lasting ≥0.8 s counts as one.Shows the count plus latest rate (Hz) and depth (cents). 5–7 Hz and 20–50 cents is a typical vibrato.
Vocal rangeLowest and highest notes held clearly for 0.2 s or more.Shown as note names such as A3 (220 Hz). Useful for choosing a song key.
Scoop (shakuri)At a note onset (or after leaving the previous note), sliding up from below and settling on the target note.Counted once when the pitch rises steadily by 80 cents or more (over 0.04–0.5 s) right before the note settles (within ±25 cents for 0.12 s). Moving up from a note held for 0.1 s or more is a note change, not a scoop.
KobushiA quick upward flick in the middle of a held note that comes straight back.Counted once when a stable held note peaks 60 cents or more above itself, returns within 0.4 s (to ±30 cents) and stays for 0.08 s. Continuous oscillation (vibrato) is not counted.

Technique counts compared: how scoops and kobushi are counted here vs DAM and JOYSOUND

The Japanese karaoke scoring systems DAM Seimitsu Saiten DX-G and JOYSOUND Bunseki Saiten AI+ both report how many techniques they detected while you sang. The counts here use our own thresholds for pitch movements close to each maker's official descriptions, and will not match the machines' internal judgement.

TechniqueHow this tool countsDAM DX-G (official description)JOYSOUND AI+ (official description)
Scoop (shakuri)Steady rise of 80+ cents from below right before the note settlesSliding smoothly up from a lower pitch to the intended pitchScores kobushi, shakuri and vibrato as its three techniques and counts them
KobushiPeak of +60 cents on a held note, back within 0.4 sA decorative turn that moves the pitch finely within the basic melodyOne of the three techniques; counted
FallNot countedSliding smoothly down from the intended pitch to a lower oneNot listed among the techniques on the official page
VibratoThe Vibrato row above (count, rate, depth)Has a detection-count item in addition to skill, seconds and typeOne of the three techniques; counted
  • ●DAM's official page describes the DX-G technique count as the total number of techniques such as kobushi, vibrato, fall and shakuri detected while singing.
  • ●Neither maker's official page says how many cents or seconds make one count, so a high count here does not guarantee the same count at the venue.
  • ●The intended use is to check whether the scoops and kobushi you think you sing actually appear in your pitch. Practise one note at a time in guide mode and look for ▲ (scoop) and ● (kobushi) on the trace.

How this differs from karaoke scoring

This is not a replacement for a scoring machine. It checks pitch, the highest-weighted item, and the foundations behind it (stability, vibrato, range) at home.

What it can do

  • ●Works without a song (no backing track or lyrics; humming works)
  • ●Shows pitch error in cents instantly
  • ●Records long tone, vibrato and range as numbers
  • ●Free, no install, no account, on iPhone, Android and PC browsers
  • ●Counts scoops and kobushi with its own thresholds

What it cannot do

  • ○Score a licensed song (that is the job of karaoke machines and official apps)
  • ○Reproduce DAM or JOYSOUND scores (expression, rhythm, AI bonus are not measured)
  • ○Count techniques other than scoops and kobushi, such as falls and accents (and scoops/kobushi are not counted the way scoring machines count them)

Using it for practice

  • If accuracy is low, first check whether the song key fits your range shown in the result sheet.
  • If no vibrato is detected, hold a note in guide mode and practise a regular, gentle oscillation.
  • If jitter is high, keep a constant distance from the mic and start with steady long tones.
  • Log the scores you get at the karaoke venue in Karascore, per song and per machine, to see whether practice turns into points.

FAQ

Q. Is it really free? Do I need an account?
A. Yes, it is free with no account and no usage limit. Open the page and allow the microphone.
Q. Does it work on a phone browser only?
A. Yes. It runs in Safari on iPhone and Chrome on Android. The microphone requires HTTPS, so it only works on this site. Choose Allow in the browser prompt.
Q. Are these numbers the same as DAM or JOYSOUND scores?
A. No. The tool measures pitch, stability, long tone, vibrato and range with its own thresholds. Machine scores include expression, rhythm and AI bonuses, so they cannot be compared. Use it as a practice guide: better pitch accuracy here usually means better pitch scores there.
Q. Is my voice recorded or uploaded?
A. No. Audio is analysed inside the browser and there is no upload. Pressing Stop releases the microphone. Results stay in this browser only if you press “Save to the practice log” (never uploaded).
Q. Can I save results and compare them with last time?
A. Yes. After Stop, press “Save this result to the practice log”. It is stored only in this browser (no upload, no sign-up). Next time you measure with the same settings (mode, tolerance, guide note), you see how accuracy, jitter, long tone and range width changed since last time.
Q. Can I measure just my vocal range?
A. Use the vocal range test on this page. Sing your lowest note, then your highest; only notes held steady for 0.3 s or more count, and your singable range is shown as note names such as A3.
Q. Are the scoop and kobushi counts the same as on DAM or JOYSOUND?
A. No. DAM Seimitsu Saiten DX-G and JOYSOUND Bunseki Saiten AI+ both show technique counts, but neither official page says how many cents or seconds make one count. This tool uses its own thresholds: a rise of 80+ cents from below right before a note settles is a scoop, and a peak of +60 cents on a held note that returns within 0.4 s is kobushi. Use it to check whether the techniques you think you sing actually show up in your pitch.
Q. Can I keep the result in my Karascore log?
A. After Stop, use “Log it in Karascore with your venue score” to open the entry form with this result (accuracy, jitter, scoops, kobushi, range…) in the memo field. Enter the song and the score from the venue and save. Saving requires a free login, and nothing is sent to a server until you press Save.
